Big Boy, Big Hoss, Big Changes, and a Big Take | My Thoughts on the Big Boy Rumble Tumble

Posted by Anonymous-Frog - September 5th, 2022

UPDATE: Thanks for dropping the scores from 3.3 to 3.0 in a matter of days. You're a great help! I don't want to risk any more review bombing.

Yesterday I created a submission for the Big Boy Rumble Tumble, and I'd also like to take the opportunity to give my own, completely unbiased opinion on the animation jam as a whole

It's alright. A lot of the submissions were very enjoyable to watch, there's a simple and interesting premise, (ie. a fat guy who rumbles and tumbles, likes BBQing, etc), but is this really the "most important jam in all of Newgrounds' culture", worth giving away $1,000 to? That I'll let Morbius decide.

I don't exactly get the whole point of the jam. To me, this came right out of nowhere with no explanation. I'm guessing this was probably an inside joke started by either Chris Piche or someone in his friend circle, and I think this might've been a forced meme.

This definition from Know Your Meme seems to fit very well.

"Forced Memes refer to any "meme" that is artificially created and spread rather than organically spreading through word of mouth as a naturally created meme. Typically, forced memes made with the intent of becoming a meme are aggressively promoted by their creators, small dedicated groups or companies attempting to use them for viral marketing or astroturfing."

This doesn't automatically make a meme bad, but I also don't think Big Hoss had escaped his niche like clussy has. I appreciate the effort, but you got to let the people decide for themselves.

UPDATE: I temporarily removed and restored the submission to prevent any further review bombs.

I did not intend to destroy anyones fun or knock down the jam because I’m some stupid hater. I was excited for what was to come and I wanted to participate as well, and I did. Then Twitter happened and it all went downhill. I just thought it would’ve had a hard time reaching anyone who isn’t super balls deep in cringey zoomer culture, ie. most people. And the review bombing didn’t help either.

That’s all!

says the guy who made a submission to help the so-called "forced meme" lole. you are not immune to big hoss propaganda

I'm cool with it. It was a fun lil thing to work on and it gave me a nice challenge while learning Toon Boom

It definitely qualifies as a forced meme, but it doesn't suffer from being overplanned(I.e Fefe) or intense branding.

you must be real fun at parties dude

Nah, they're a waste of time.

Sometimes people do things because it's fun, Anonymous Frog. I honestly think the appeal of the jam was BECAUSE it came out of nowhere and was so inconsequential. Hosting an entire jam for it and having people make submissions is just another layer of what makes the joke funny!

You can be a bit of a stick in the mud sometimes, Frog. Instead of looking at things so objectively, look at the bigger picture, put on your Bob Ross glasses and understand that if it inspires someone to create something - it's a net positive! Even you made something for it, something you would've not made otherwise.

I hope there will be a day where you learn to just let people have their fun without a snide remark or an attempt to intellectually "beat" everyone else. :P

Dude he's a big guy who rolls around, nobody is trying to do anything other than have a good time. Big Hoss isnt trying to be the "next clussy", we're all just goofing around.

Loosen up a little Dude, you'll have a lot more fun that way.

Eh, it is what it is.I don´t get whats so funny about it but i guess it beats an uninspired theme for a art jam or animation jam.

Bro it's not that serious, people just wanted to do something for fun.

your oc is still the only oc where it looks like the creator

How would you know? I never did a face reveal.

seriously. just loosen up a bit bro. people made this jam for fun, so why are you being a dick about it. you're no fun dude

I hate Gen Z humor

It is a stupid contest for people to have fun and animate an inside joke. Not a case study for the morality and ethics surrounding a crowd-funded money award for an animated short. In addition to the ability of well known community figures to turn an inside joke into a large scale meme via. animation jams.

This is arguably no different from the Musk Jam, Ballfrog jam or Purple Imposter animation jam where the theme was surrounded by a person or character as the main theme. Or maybe you'd argue in your view these are also trying to forcefully push some kind of meme, joke or character(s) into the public eye more.

Instead of trying to find ways to bat a good thing down, see it for what it is. It's a good opportunity for people to create stuff, have fun, learn and maybe even earn something for their hard work, potentially inspiring them to learn and work more in art and animation.

There's no need to try and "intellectually" analyze fun, just lighten up and let people enjoy themselves.

buh

Do you frequent reddit?

Yes I do. I created my account in 2018 and I still frequently go there to look at memes.

I can and I have enjoyed this sort of stuff, but I'd expect the content on Newgrounds, with either weeks or months of effort to be a little bit more formal, or at least be preferred heavily over shitposts.

@Anonymous-Frog thats a you problem tbh

@Anonymous-Frog Well i expected to get laid last night and that didn't happen either. I can tell you use reddit a lot because every interaction ive seen from you bleeds entitlement. Newgrounds literally invented shitposting and you expect "more"?? That's like going to the dump and complaining it smells like garbage.

seems like you haven't figured it out yet but this isn't reddit. Nobody asked for your opinion. If you really wanted to give feedback there are appropriate avenues for that, but naw fam you NEEDED to position yourself in the center of attention. You seem to think you're some avant garde celebrity when really you're just a clown.

I really hope you're a teenager man cause other wise this is real pathetic lmao.

It’s literally linked to my user page

stop crying

Get a job.

And no, being a Redditor doesn’t count

man been taking L's recently

@Stepford ok step but this is anonymous frog we’re talking about

I'm disappointed in you.
