Just watch the episode!

This is a compilation of the cleanup shots you did of a 12 minute long Ollie and Scoops episode. Although your work on the show is great, given that it has a huge team of animators and artists and so and so, I really don't recommend posting incomplete packages or demo stuff like this to Newgrounds.

Also I don't know why you aren't coauthored on the episode itself.

EDIT: Newgrounds is more for completed/finished submissions that can stand out on their own.
I've seen some people submit clips from collabs they've worked on, which is fine, but they're all broken up into different segments where one person completes each part from start to finish, backgrounds, characters, and all. They may use external audio, but I won't touch on this, but each part could stand out on its own.

For example, the Half Life Collab from early 2021. Each bit could stand out on its own as a separate submission. This is actually a better example, as each part have a decent run-time and have their own audio + writing. Other collabs may only last for 5-10 seconds and are derived from existing audio, usually the source material if it's a 'reanimated' collab

Here, the process is completely different. Many different people work on many different bits at a time, with 11 other cleanup artists, which is pretty much drawing over someone else's rough animation to use in the final product, so I'd hardly call this a finished work.

It's not disallowed, although I would rather you submit your own stuff.

I thought Newgrounds was a place where people can share their work as long as it is animation related.

And, unless someone from the Newgrounds staff itself tells me to stop, I will keep posting my cleanup-freelance work here.

FILLER!

Some of the sprite work, especially backgrounds look blurry and contrast from the sprites, notably the cave where Gym Leader Ryu is fought. Not even Dorkly makes that mistake.

The battles use the Gen 6-7 (and some Gen 8) 3D Pokemon models, pixelated and bilinear filtered, while the UI just looks plain, which contrasts from the Gen 3 style used in the rest of the movie.
In addition, most Trainer battles themselves don't add much to the plot / story or add any humor, such as the battle with Ryu, which goes on for 2 and a half minutes without at least a single dialogue in between (aside from the start and end).
Same deal with Propel, which lasts 2 minutes as well.

There's also two Rocket Grunt battles, though it looks like it's shortened, it still feels too long.
it's best to just skip parts of these battles just to see the outcome and move along.

Overall, it's a total mishmash of styles that don't really blend well, even for sprite movie standards. I'm not asking for something on the same level as Super Mario Bros Z, but at least keep things clean, consistent and keep the viewer engaged.
Aside from that, 20 minutes is impressive for an individual animator, even for a sprite movie, and you've got a good team of voice actors. Just needs ironing out

Thanks for the feedback.

This won't make you cry!

This is cute and was animated very well, but at the end of the day, this is still a 8 second clip of what I believe is external audio. Pretty much a dime a dozen on YouTube or TikTok and unless it's super viral, you'd most likely forget about it once the next one comes out.

Also:
- The little guy appears to have a face on both sides of their head. And also isn't redrawn.
- Stick arms and legs also saves some extra time when animating.

Not really '4.17 star' material in my opinion In general, anything less than 10 seconds aren't recommended.

No YOU'RE the pussy!

Sorry to break it to you, but this is dogshit and Tom won't feature this. This is from someone who has watched the original Beebo cartoons and could replicate its style very easily because it wasn't that overcomplicated in terms of animation.

Here's what you didn't do right.
1. Is that green shirt guy supposed to be Harry? Looks nothing like him. He has a purple shirt with 'WWF' on it (renamed to WWE in 2002, some time after) and no pants, just underwear. His head is also a photo of a real person, I don't know who, but he's got long messy hair.
Here it is: https://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/94a8076310f3a7b71216d1abf464cb65

Also Beebo doesn't look like Beebo. He's not called 'the cat with facial hair' for a reason.

There's also a really crappy background, even crappier than the backgrounds used in the originals, which at least used colors other than red and actually looked like rooms someone has been slobbering in for years.

Bandicam? Use HTMLifier or TurboWarp to export a .zip file and upload that instead!

FlankoTanko responds:

I was expecting to get a review like this (not saying its bad)
I couldn't draw harry or Beebo because (there was no vector pack of them on scratch) (at least I think there is no vector packs). This is one of my first movies and this felt rushed to me. I may try to make a sequal with a better background and the og people
I was playing as harry (as an excuse because I couldn't find the vector)
Beebo was something random. (I really felt dumb after making him)

Thank you for the criticism. It might help me out for the next thing of Beebo.

I'm pretty sure Bandicam didn't exist in 1988.

WizardWare responds:

You didn't read the description

While it was sort of impressive that you managed a 20 minute animation (which itself was cut from 50 minutes), despite the low effort, this one at under 2 minutes isn't as good animation-wise.

The only thing animating are the characters' faces, they're all using the same pose. This is extremely quick and easy to do. Try making the characters' arms move, like they would in real life, you know. A little bit subtle, but still gives off some movement. Not stiff as a bone.

Also a miscellaneous suggestion: Try instead shortening the name of the show to 'Enchanted Ones'. That way you don't need to acronym it.

TheMiamiDeSantos responds:

thanks!! and thanks for the name suggestion, some people are already calling it "The Enchanted Ones". This is a ep from what i call "demos from the first season", it was done back in 2019 along with the looong full lenght ep, so it's stiff in the same style. This one was a test of how fast i could put out animation in this style and reusing things like backgrounds and sprites. Once again, thank you, and i would like to see what you think of the other ep "The Largest Port in Latin America" it's different from this one and the long one (just 53 seconds long). Also would like to see what you think of the dub and the writing, i had the opportunity to show this state company ep to an independent journalist he liked the writing and talked about everything else too, the animation, the dub.

> The music was from Zelda and was in the dub itself. Not really the wisest legal move.

> I suspect that the comic was traced in the making of this animation. Easiest way to recreate someone else's style, which other animators such as Antoons use specifically for that purpose.

MaximizedAnimation responds:

I'd like to clear some things up:

1. I did copy and paste the links from YouTube, since I had uploaded the video there first, but I didn't know they said "Are you sure you want to leave YouTube?". If I had known then, I would have fixed the issue if it was a security concern.

2. I hadn't linked to the original posts since, at the time, I felt it wasn't necessary, but in retrospect, I do feel linking to the specific posts would have been a better way to credit the voice actor and artist.

3. I knew the dub used Zelda music, but I couldn't really do anything about removing it when making the animation and therefore didn't prioritize the legal issue. In retrospect, I should have considered the possibility that there would be a legal issue and put more effort into removing or at least quieting down the background music.

4. I will admit that I did trace over the comic, and I do feel ashamed that I resorted to such a move. I had just wanted to replicate the style as best as I could, and for the longest time, I didn't have a lot of confidence in my digital drawing skills, but I shouldn't have let that be an excuse. I wasn't trying to be shady with my methods of animating and uploading, and I meant no ill intent with any of the decisions I made when making this video. Since I made this video, I've put in the effort to stop tracing and be more confident in my digital drawing skills. I regret the mistakes I made here, but I don't want to be lumped together with other artists that continue to trace artwork.

Anyways, thanks for the constructive criticism, and I'll work on these problems in my future videos.

THIS AIN'T ANIME!

It's got great atmosphere and I'm pretty hyped. It's a lot more original than the other Pico Day submissions this year (if ripping off Voltron is better than ripping off Pico's School that is), and I hope this gets done sometime.

SUGGESTED IDEAS:
Clean up your frames. It's especially noticeable on the ranger's cloak in the snow scene, but personally, I'd rather sacrifice one or two frames just to have time to clean up the rest.

QUESTIONS:
1. Where's the source of the audio you used?
2. What software do you use?
3. Do you even use onion skins?

NOTES:

- Back when this was posted, not counting deleted users, only eight people were officially coauthored, those being BlueHippo, AlmightyHans, Ansel, Eidderf, Gerkinman, Sinitron, UnderARock and Wonchop, due to coauthor limitations of the time. Tom added the rest after I sent 2 different thumbnails on the Thumbnail Crew thread and I noticed he wasn't coauthored.

- The farthest left top tooth (left from UnderARock's) doesn't lead to anything.

Gotta say it was a pleasant surprise to see that Tom added add of the crew to this piece!! Thanks so much for that 🙏

Psi43 responds:

Thanks for doing that. I'm hella late but I have totally forgotten about ever creating that animation lmao.

This is NOT a hate comment.

It's a pretty decent test, but there are a few flaws.

1. The merry-go round in the far background (the faint one) appears bigger than another one that passes by the two characters. It fills up roughly the same screen real estate. Same goes with the ticket man on the right. This makes them look massive compared to the rest of the scenery

2. No audio. Not really needed since it's a test, but since you are publishing it, I guess it isn't that hard to slap a royalty-free carnival jingle on top. Otherwise, it's possible to post on the Art Portal as a GIF without compromise.

Not bad. I understand it's just a test, but please do keep in mind there's a clear distinction between pointing out a submission's flaws and/or suggestions for improvement (no one is perfect and sometimes they can be shit), and something that can actually be defined as a hate comment. Especially if you have an audience that isn't really informed about the situation.

I know there are some errors in it. This was made in my early years of digital animation, this was my first attempt of panning.
