Score: 7 | SS Review #001

This is the oldest Dailytoon (that I know of) and the oldest on the official Star Syndicate account. Of course there were a few other SS flashes from other members before this, but for all intents and purposes, this appears to be the first.

Onto the review. There's 3 toons in this collab,

Overall:
A little bit lacking content wise, but you got to start somewhere.

SevenStar:
Four exploding naked Uncle Sams and a picture of Wade Fulp being flipped 10 times a second. while the Kool Aid Man's "Oh Yeah!" plays. A menu button shows up, but only after watching it for about 12 seconds. Not entertaining to say the least.

ZeroStar:
Features various frame by frame animation tests and such. It's OK even for its time

FourStar:
The text "KoRn is gReateR than you" set to Korn music. Regardless of what you think about Korn, you can all agree there's nothing else to this bit. Unlike Seven, the menu button ain't gonna show up

Visuals: 6/10 | Entertainment: 3/10 | Sound: 7/10 | Best Toon: Zerostar.

Zerostar responds:

Pretty trippy to see someone seriously review my old stuff from when I was 15.

Lip syncing is not just behind, it's also very very quiet. I suggest fixing it using something like Audacity.

willag responds:

yeah i made it quieter because it was too loud and i think i missed the mark a tad

OK. So the graphics are drawn using a super thick round brush (idk flipaclip or something idk) and I think it's supposed to be terrible. Good way to stump reviewers, but not so good for trying to get an audience to watch that shit.

mustard-water responds:

its kind of supposed to be terrible yet good at the same time idk, and it isnt flipaclip, although thanks for the feedback
(edit) i have now gotten a drawing tablet, you can see the latest movie where i use it.

== Cardboard's easy to rip and tear ==
Score: 7 | Informative Review

Some things to note:

1. This video blends live action with 'gameplay' consisting of actual cardboard cutout drawn to resemble the graphics of Doom.
Enemies and weapons are either puppeteered by hand or moved digitally. The latter are sometimes animated using different sprites (such as the lost souls). A considerable amount of effort has been made to craft this video, even though a good amount of NG users (myself included) may prefer traditional animation or even stop-motion.

2. This video was released on YouTube on Sep 6, 2018 and has 10K views as of today.
This is the 15th video to be brought over to Newgrounds over a 2 week span by an already established creator (12k+ subscribers).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8RGaKyaJPc
The creator has since made other cardboard Doom videos, with one in 2020 covering the PC version (and also using 3D sets rather than 2D backgrounds), and a 2021 video about Doom 2 with John Romero himself cameoing as a severed head.

3. The video was initially published without a title as "untitled #1936309". I recommend putting the title in before hitting "Publish".

4. The actual SNES version of Doom was released in 1995 and lacks textures on the floors and ceilings, but it's acknowledged that these are ignored.

5. The video's tagged with 'doom', 'doom-2', 'doom-3', and 'doom-eternal' even though the video only covers the original Doom.

GAMESMADEOFCARDBOARD responds:

Thanks for covering all this!!

TappyWara responds:

To be 100% with you, why the rating system? this means nothing to me if you can review something give a real review please, like holy shit. Wtf even is the cringe rating section? these numbers mean nothing, give real critique, please!

This 8 second has some fairly decent animation. It's in colour, it has some interesting background work, it's mildly amusing seeing Hagrid sent flying by Harry's spells, but that's about it.

Big elephant in the room: Quantity over quality. You've already posted 5-6 cartoons under 30 seconds (sometimes under 15 seconds) in the past 2 months. Pace yourself. It's not uncommon for a NG creator to go months without a single upload

Gray responds:

Just looked at this again. Ye. Honestly you have a point. I do need to pace myself tbf

Can't find an icon? Use a screenshot from the animation itself!

GachaD responds:

Okay, that's actually a good idea. How come didn't I think of it?!

Score: 9 | Critic Review

This is a 12-minute-long Castle Crashers video in the style of an old anime VHS. It stars 9 of the many playable knights as the protagonists and the Necromancer as the sole antagonist.
The voices are all in Japanese, but English subtitles are provided. Some of the music in this animation comes from the original game, but it also uses music from other anime shows, which might be very iffy copyright-wise.

The fact that you animated an entire 12-minute story in only 2 weeks would've been impressive by itself, however, I can tell that it would've been very quick to animate.

1. Lip-syncing is rarely used. Anime tends to use fewer mouth frames compared to western animation. Sort of justified as the knights all wear helmets covering their faces.

2. Backgrounds are very simple. Even the stars in the 'flying circle' scene (5:41) only cycle between 2-3 frames and looks extremely unpolished.

3. The characters have simplistic proportions and lack shading, which would cut down on animation time by an astronomical amount. They also use very few keyframes (for example, a lot of non-action scenes use only 1 keyframe and only animate the eyes)

I will keep it in mind, tnx for da advice fren, also, im glad u liked it ^^

Score: 6 | Critic Review

I'm surprised there weren't any other reviews until 30 minutes before I submitted mine, despite being out for well over a day, and amassing a total of 1.3K views and 167 votes.

Let's analyze what's going on here. We have a nice hot blue-haired anime chick in some sort of maid outfit holding some dish, next to an ass shot (same animation) exposing her panties. The final 4 seconds instead has another girl dress her up in a pink dress to take photos and is less horny and more fast-paced and meme-ish, if I have to describe it.

She almost looks like cel-shaded 3D, but what I think is being done is some slightly convincing 2D rigging. The way that the folds of that skirt distorts as it accelerates upwards away from the ass is a dead giveaway.

Either way, still a great gift to give to the guy who has R34'd everything. I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

RE: That’s an irrelevant question.

lewdishsnail responds:

Do you have autism?

RE: Thank you for not taking the joke badly. I also just don't like these kinds of reviews because I'm not a fan of the "horny jail" jokes. It's just annoying. I am welcome to actual critiques, I'll just ignore the intro.

Score: 9 | Critic Review.

This is an incredibly surreal cartoon with a kickass soundtrack and the perfect mix of gore, trippiness, and eyeballs, ie. not to everyone's tastes, but if you're into this sort of shit, you're in luck! A ton of work has definitely went into drawing all that.

Although there was some looping, and the movement doesn't really seem to follow any specific set of rules (though that could be its own thing), there were a lot of scenes that use movements animated on ones via frame by frame. Some examples include, but are not limited to:

- Whenever Rape moves, he always exaggerates in a different way, such as behaving like slime as he slides out his car or into the alcohol store, his face coming on when inside said store, and his leg wiggles when he steps on a cat and his face exits his skull to look at the bus timetable

- 0:33: The smoke that comes out of Rape's car and the tires on the subsequent scene
- 0:41: His hand as the beer bottle rotates, and the froth that comes out when he slices it open with a knife.
- 1:07: The blood coming out of granny's head as she hits a rock, although her brain is surprisingly smooth.
- 1:53: The bus 'walking' with its wheels, though that could be clipped by 2 seconds.

Some things to mind is that there's a few bits of text that aren't in English, though captions are provided and there's no 'voiced' dialogue. Also 'Rape' isn't exactly the most common or acceptable names out there.
Either way, incredible job!

Thanks for the thorough review. Yeah I like to over-animate the little details sometimes.
